Hey everyone! I hope your week has been fabulous so far. I was pleasantly surprised with a flower shower by my husband and children. They brought in five bouquets of flowers for me, and it wasn't special occasion. I was so excited I think I wore a plastered grin for about 30 minutes!

I'm not a florist, nor do I have any kind of a green thumb, but I do know a few tricks to making these babies last up to 2 weeks. So if you're like me and you love to look at pretty flowers, but you don't have a green thumb, here are a couple of hacks for keeping your flowers fresh longer.

The first thing you want to do is act quickly. Flowers wilt fairly quickly, and you don't want them wilting on you before trying to preserve them. Remember, they've already been in the flower shop for a day or two (possibly). So, the quicker you start these hacks, the better for your flowers.

One of the oldest tricks, and one that I've found vital, is to snip the ends about a quarter inch (at an angle) before putting them into water. I've tried doing it straight across, friends. Not as effective. The angle helps them to absorb more water and keeps them from drooping prematurely.

Add a few drops of bleach or vodka along with a teaspoon of sugar to the water in place of flower food. The bleach/alcohol helps prevent bacteria while the sugar is food.

Keep your fresh flowers away from fruit. Apparently they don't mix very well.

Keep your flowers cool. They'll wilt in warmer temperatures.

Try these hacks, and you'll be surprised at how much life you'll get out of your fresh flower, and if you want to arrange flowers like a pro, you have to see this.

I found this vase at Nordstrom (now 40% off -affiliate link) in my search for a new one to house my many flowers. I fell in love and ordered one for myself. It's perfect for French Cottage or Paris decor.
